Dr. Scott D. Shaw

Owner – Chief Veterinarian

Dr. Scott Shaw cared for horses, chickens, a goat, and a cow at a young age, and always admired the local veterinarian who helped with the family’s animals. When the time came to apply for college, Dr. Shaw thought about what he really enjoyed. He liked animals, he was interested in science and puzzle-solving, and he wanted the ability to live wherever he desired. When Dr. Shaw added it all up, one choice was perfectly clear: veterinary medicine was the path for him!

Dr. Shaw is originally from San Jose, California and opened the doors of Westside Pet Hospital for business in the summer of 2012. He’s been caring for the area’s pets and animal parents here ever since. Dr. Shaw has a particular affinity for integrating Western medicine and alternative therapies to find the best solution for a pet’s ailment—he loves to put the pieces of the puzzle together to form a clear picture. Most of all, Dr. Shaw enjoys speaking directly with the area’s pet owners and being a firsthand witness to the incredible bonds that the area’s pet parents share with their four-legged companions.

Along with his wife of 25 years, Kristin, Dr. Shaw shares his home with his two sons, Doug and Nathan. Away from work, he loves to bicycle and has been riding on- and off-road for decades, and he’s also fond of skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing in the winter months.

Jen Hil

Jen Hill

Veterinary Assistant

Jen is a Veterinary Assistant. She came to LaPaw Animal Hospital from the Bay Area of California (yes, she is one of those! But, she is quickly becoming a proper Bendite!). She has been at LaPaw since December 2019, and we think she is awesome as an assistant AND brightens everyone’s day with her cheerful attitude (even when she’s in a “bad” mood”!). Per Jen “The best part of being a veterinary assistant is helping people keep their pets happy and healthy so they can be around for as long as possible!”.

Jen has a 12-year-old curmudgeon of a cat named Caroline and a 13 ½-year-old hysterical Pug named Rhett. Rhett can commonly be seen zipping around LaPaw in his wheelchair on a regular basis.

Started at LaPaw Animal Hospital: 2019
Interests: Bird watching, gardening, reading, jewelry making, and pottery.

Simone Sutton

Simone grew up in Felton California with her family and has always been surrounded by animals of all kinds. Since the age of 4, she has been coming up to Bend to snowboard during the winter and float the river during the summer. Since the age of two she has been riding horses and now currently has a Quarter horse named Fawn. She grew up with many dogs throughout her childhood and had a cat named Patch for most of her childhood.

Simone is currently in college working towards a degree in social science. She moved to Bend full-time in May of 2022 after going to college in Salem for two years.

Outside of work and school Simone spends her time at the gym, snowboarding, on hikes with her pets, and rodeoing during the summer. At rodeos, Simone competes in barrel racing and is a rodeo queen to help raise awareness about animal welfare. She loves working in the veterinary field and getting to help take care of all the different animals that come in. She cannot imagine her life without a variety of animals in it.
