Gift Ideas for Your Feline Friend

December 15, 2020

Have you finished your holiday shopping yet? Don’t forget about your cat. If you need a few ideas for a last-minute gift for Fluffy, we’re here to help. Read on as your Bend, OR vet lists some great gifts that your feline friend can unwrap this year.

Toys

Almost all of our four-legged companions love a good toy! Try stuffing your cat’s stocking with a few fun toys—they keep your cat occupied, stimulating her mind, and provide good opportunities for exercise as well. What cat doesn’t love to use her hunting instincts by stalking a fake mouse toy?

Treats

Treats are almost always a hit. It’s a safe bet that your cat will appreciate a new bag of tasty treats this holiday season. Try to choose treats that have some kind of health benefit; you can find dental treats or treats made to boost Fluffy’s skin and fur health. Ask your veterinarian for a recommendation on a good treat for your cat. And be sure not to overdo it when giving your cat treats, because you don’t want to make her sick!

Catnip

Have you ever tried catnip on your cat? While not every cat responds to the herb—almost half of cats don’t possess the proper gene in order to experience the chemical reaction that catnip causes—those that do tend to love it. Your cat might dart around excitedly, rub her face and body in the area where catnip was sprinkled, or simply stretch out in a state of ecstasy. And because catnip is perfectly safe (your cat can’t overdose or become addicted!), you don’t have to feel guilty about giving your cat catnip as often as you’d like.

Cat Tower

Cat towers provide various platforms that your cat can jump to and from. Many also have built-in scratching posts, allowing your pet to utilize her natural clawing instincts. If your cat has never had a cat tower, or her current one could use a refresh, consider getting her one this holiday season.

New Litter Box

Have you ever considered upgrading your cat’s litter box? Your furry friend would appreciate it. And older cats, especially those beginning to suffer from arthritis pain, would probably like a box with lower sides that they can get into more easily.
