Celebrating Holistic Pet Day

August 15, 2020

August 30th is Holistic Pet Day! Here at Westside Pet Hospital, we offer several treatments that fall under the holistic umbrella, such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and homeopathic medicine. These treatments are safe, natural, and effective, and work hand-in-hand (or rather, hand-in-paw) with traditional modern medicine. In a nutshell, holistic pet care encompasses both prevention and treatment of many common issues. It has helped many of our furry patients feel better. That’s definitely something to celebrate! In this article, a local Bend, OR vet lists some things you can do for Holistic Pet Day.

Are you a bit fuzzy on exactly what holistic pet care entails? Do a bit of research, and find out more about it. It’s truly a fascinating topic. It never hurts to learn more!

Make Homemade Treats

Make something special for Fluffy or Fido, using healthy, organic ingredients. Your furry pal may also benefit from taking certain herbs or supplements. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Enjoy Nature

Do you have a dog? Take Fido for a walk in a peaceful park. This also works for cats that enjoy being walked, though they are of course in the minority among kitties. Fluffy may appreciate having some new pet-safe plants to nibble on, however. If you have room, you can even make your feline pal a little catio! Check the ASPCA site for safe plant recommendations.

Remove Toxins

Inspect your home and property, and remove anything that could potentially be toxic. Toxic plants are one area of concern. You may also want to get rid of old chemicals, materials, and even certain foods.

Your cute pet may not care about the concepts behind Feng Shui, but they will benefit from a more relaxed, peaceful environment. Clean, declutter, and/or move things around to make best use of light.

Online Shopping

Could Fido use a new bed, or perhaps some new toys? Does Fluffy need new dishes, or another scratching post? Look for products that use natural, sustainable resources.

Your pet may very well be able to help you with this one. Enjoy some down time with your four-legged friend. Meditate, try some yoga, or just take a nap. Our furry companions make great cuddle buddies!
