Here at Westside Pet Hospital, we’re proud to offer a variety of holistic pet care treatments. Many different things fall under the umbrella of holistic pet care, including acupuncture, homeopathy, and Chinese herbal medicine, to name a few. These treatments offer some wonderful benefits. They not only help our furry patients feel better, they are very safe; have little or no side effects; and can be administered without pain, surgery, or drugs. However, there is a lot of misinformation about holistic veterinary medicine. A Bend, OR vet debunks some common myths below.
The cost of veterinary care treatments always varies, depending on the type of treatment it is and the number of treatments needed. However, homeopathic care is often much more budget-friendly than people think. This is especially true when treatment is started early, before a health problem becomes severe. Don’t assume that the cost of treatment will be prohibitive.
This may be the most widespread myth about holistic care. Keep in mind that some holistic treatments, such as traditional Chinese medicine, have been around for thousands of years. It definitely looks at things from a different perspective than modern medicine. However, that doesn’t mean it’s ineffective. In fact, several studies and testimonials have validated these holistic options.
To be fair, there definitely are some less reputable companies out there. However, that can be said about any pet care option or product, from boarding to flea treatments to toys. The truth is, there actually are many excellent holistic methods and clinics. These treatments really do work, and can produce amazing results!
Even just a few decades ago, it wasn’t easy to find a vet who practiced holistic pet care. However, over the past few years, more and more veterinarians have started integrating holistic medicine into their practices. In many cases, combining both holistic and traditional treatments offers the best of both worlds. That’s a huge plus!
Holistic options are wonderful. However, there is no one-size-fits-all cure that will work on all of our patients. Treatment options are always offered on a case-by-case basis. That said, if you think your pet may benefit from holistic care, give us a call. It never hurts to learn more!
